The New Flash Forge Artemis 3D Printer

24:493 months Agoi
A fairly deep review of the new FlashForge USA Artemis Printer- targeted from the perspective of the intended use case- the education world. During the review process, I had logged over 200 hours of live printing on this machine over on https://www.twitch.tv/makerdeck. I had also unboxed and fired up the first print live on Twitch on my channel there. The VOD will be public until twitch cycles it out at https://www.twitch.tv/crussty3d If you would like to learn more about this particular unit, you can check out: https://flashforge-usa.com/products/flashforge-artemis-3d-printer If you are an educator and would like to learn more about their education bundles, check out: https://flashforge-usa.com/pages/flashforge-artemis-3d-printer-education-bundle If you are interested in picking one up, they are available on Amazon (US) with prime shipping: https://amzn.to/3LdFwzU (affiliate) ********************************************************* DISCLOSURE: This printer was provided to me at no cost for review via representatives of FlashForge USA. I was not compensated monetarily in any way for my opinions or time, but I was allowed to keep the printer. As this video was intended to be timed around the product release date, FlashForge was afforded a pre-screening of the video, however I was not asked to change any content before release. Additionally, I was afforded a period of time to make suggestions for improvements to the FlashForge team, so many of the negatives I point out in this video have already been suggested for improvement. ********************************************************* Did you know I also stream on Twitch? Hollow Vase for SLA/MSLA Using Prusa Slicer

6:532 years Agoi
I found a quick easy way to turn a solid vase model intended for FDM spiral vase printing into a hollow vase that can be printed on an SLA/MSLA printer using only Prusa Slicer. It's a quick easy process and a fun way to make vase prints. Remember, a vase on an SLA/MSLA print is essentially a big suction cup, so you HAVE to add a hole in the bottom of you vase and plug it up later. Model shown in this video example: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/7308-spiral-vase/files ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! SLA 101 – Resin Welding

10:403 years Agoi
In this first episode of SLA 101, I show you how to use resin and a UV source to weld your parts together. When done properly, this creates a bond as strong as the individual layers of the print. Note, that contrary to what I do in the video, I should have been gloved up for this process. I was not expecting any contact with the resin (boy was I wrong…) and opted not to, but I should not have take the risk. When dealing with resins, please always read and adhere to the manufacturers safe handling and processing procedures. This should be found in the resin’s MSDS/SDS forms, which they are LEGALLY obligated to provide to you. If a manufacturer does not make this available online, ask them for it- if they still cannot provide, move on to a different resin. Note: This is a re-post of my earlier tutorial on SLA Resin Welding as somehow the video disappeared from the YT library. ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! Frozen Shuffle SLA Printer – Up Close & Personal

12:133 years Agoi
Thanks to the good folks over at FilamentOne.com, I was given an opportunity to get my hands on and play with a Frozen Shuffle for awhile- So it’s time to get Up Close and Personal with it! With a great feature set and sound build, this is a fairly high end machine designed for the serious user. I think it is targeted more towards the Pro-sumer / Business / Dental / Jewelry markets, but it is also suited for any serious hobbyist or home user. Disclaimer: This video is not a paid promotion or endorsement. I was provided the unit free of charge as a 'loaner' to test and use for content, and will be returning it when testing is complete. ********************************************************* If you’d like to pick up a Shuffle or any of it’s siblings such at the Larger XL or the new 4K for yourself- or you just want more information, check out: https://www.filamentone.com/collections/phrozen-3d As an added bonus, use code 'PracticalPrinting' at checkout to receive a 5% discount of your orders!!! SLA 101: Reclaiming IPA

0:113 years Agoi
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) commonly used to clean and post process SLA prints get dirty after repeated use with the contaminants that are washed away. In this episode of SLA 101, while it is not the most efficient process, I’ll show you how to recover as much as possible so you can minimize waste and reuse it. Also, if you don’t stay for the entire process, please tune in towards the end for a very important safety message about resin and resin handling. ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! SLA 101- Resin Welding

10:403 years Agoi
This is the first episode of a new series I am working on called SLA 101. Each episode will cover different topics to help beginners get the fast track to printing with the SLA printers. My hope is to keep this as generic as possible so it is not limited to one brand, or type of SLA printer- but rather cover topics that should apply to all of them. This first episode is on Resin Welding. This technique is handy because it is a simple way to “weld” together printed parts without any additional glues, etc. While in the video I show this process being done on already post processed prints, I’m told now that it actually works best if you can weld the pieces after they have been washed, but before they have their final curing. I have not tried this yet, so… YMMV… ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! Slicing For Virtual Extruders For the Geeetech A10M and A20M

9:124 years Agoi
This is a quick tutorial on how to setup and use Virtual Extruders on printers with mixing hotends such as the Geeetech A10M and A20M. I used Simplify3D for this tutorial because the interface showed well on camera, but because this process is mostly in the startup script, ANY slicer that supports multi-extruders will work. The startup Gcode for this process is: M163 S0 P1.00 ; Set Left to 100% M163 S1 P0.00 ; Set Right to 0% M164 S0 ; Save Mix M163 S0 P0.00 ; Set Left to 0% M163 S1 P1.00 ; Set Right to 100% M164 S1 ; Save Mix M163 S0 P0.50 ; Set Left to 50% M163 S1 P0.50 ; Set Right to 50% M164 S2 ; Save Mix Etc…. Remember on the M164 command, this is the number of the extruder/Toolhead you will assign, minus 1. i.e. S0 = Extruder 1, S1 = Extruder2, S2 = Extruder 3 (first virtual extruder), etc. If you would like to pick up an A10M, they are available here: Amazon US : https://amzn.to/2LDAHRC Amazon UK: https://amzn.to/2RhFFJ7 Or WorldWide: https://www.geeetech.com/152.html If you would like to pick up an A20M, they are available here: Amazon US : https://amzn.to/2LzWPN0 Amazon UK: https://amzn.to/2Agskai Or WorldWide: https://www.geeetech.com/173.html ** Above are all affiliate links ********************************************************* Models shown: Low-Poly Charmander - Multi and Dual Extrusion version by Flowalistik: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1834722 (Sorry I didn’t mention this in the video!) SeeMeCNC ROSTOCK MAX v3.2 Build Series Finale Part 15: Steps 60~64

19:095 years Agoi
Welcome to Part 15 of the SeeMeCNC ROSTOCK MAX v3.2 Build Series. This is the finale! In Part 15, we complete steps 60 ~ 64, where we attach and wire up the effector, finish up all the trim pieces and power this bad boy up!!! Stay tuned for the follow up video on the configuration process of the Duet Board!!! ***** NOTE ***** At the time I received my kit, SeeMeCNC was including pre-assembled SE-300 effector/hotend modules in the kit. Since that time, they have changed it requiring, the builder to assemble their own hotend. I may do a follow up video on the assembly process of the SE-300 if the opportunity presents itself. You can follow along in the manual here: https://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Guide/Rostock+Max+v3.2+Build+Guide/88?lang=en The sub-manual for the Heated bed is here: https://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Guide/REV+10+Heated+Bed/79 ********************************************************* If you’d like to learn more about the SeeMeCNC ROSTOCK MAX V3.2, here’s a link to the kit that I am building here: https://www.seemecnc.com/collections/3d-printers/products/rostockmax-v3-2-diy-kit-black If you aren’t up for a kit, it is also available pre-built here: https://www.seemecnc.com/collections/3d-printers/products/rostockmax-v3-2-white-rtp-fully-assembled If the spiffy new Artemis is more your style, you can check that out over at Matter Hackers here: Kit: https://goo.gl/P5PQCA Assembled: https://goo.gl/UNxKtW ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! SeeMeCNC ROSTOCK MAX v3.2 Build Series Part 14: Step 59

24:425 years Agoi
Welcome to Part 14 of the SeeMeCNC ROSTOCK MAX v3.2 Build Series. In Parts 14, complete step 59, where we wire up the heat bed per the sub-manual. This one is a little long, but I opted not to break it up. I made some mistakes on this step and felt that it was important to show those, as well as the way I went about fixing them. ***EDIT*** As Vance mentioned below in the comments, I missed a step in the video on the bed. There is a little solder pad between the +1 and +2 points that needs to be bridged over to power the LED when the bed is heating. See the manual for details on this. Good catch Vance! Simple Projects: 3D Printed Gifts For Mom Using Fusion 360

With Mothers Day coming up, it seemed like a fitting time for a fun project that the whole family can be part of! Today I’ll show you how to make simple desk and wall signs using Fusion 360. These can be painted by the kids to make great gifts for Mom for Mothers Day! ********************************************************* All prints for this video were done on the Robo 3D R2 using experimental build plates of my own design (hence the bad adhesion and warping on some of these…). You can learn more about the Robo R2 here: https://bit.ly/2HQX1b6 For this video I was using AMOLEN Multicolor Gradient Rainbow PLA, available here from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2KfwrHd ********************************************************* If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! Simple Practical Projects: Pineapple Lamp Globe

11:525 years Agoi
Inspired by some pineapple planters I saw the Proto-Pasta team post over on Twitter, I had this idea to re-mix the pineapple into a replacement ceiling fan globe. New and Improved Prusa Mk3 Carry Handle!!!

11:335 years Agoi
Another practical print for you! I've improved the original carry handle I designed for the Prusa Mk3 to also include a drop-in spool holder! While the frame is solid, it’s not the easiest thing to hold, so I improved the design of my existing carry handle so that the same pieces can be used to spool out your filament as well. Now less items to carry. It should work on both the MK2 and the MK3 frames, and uses 0.75” PVC Pipe for the handle. Meet the Porta-PiTee!!!!

10:405 years Agoi
Special thanks to FilamentOne.com for sponsoring this episode! It's not too late to hit up their 40% sale running through CyberMonday https://www.filamentone.com/blogs/filamentone-news/black-friday-super-sale As I review and test several printers, I wanted an easy way to move an Octopi unit and camera around so that I could control them, monitor them remotely and record time lapse video of prints. All of my "fixed" printers have OctoPi and webcams attached, so why not??? Enter the Porta-PiTee! An all in one, self-contained unit that can mount to a mic boom or tripod and be positioned anywhere it is needed. Files to build the PortaPi will be uploaded and available to user within a few days of video release. This project was sponsored by the kind generosity of FilamentOne.com. -- You can check out the Noble Blue filament used here: https://www.filamentone.com/products/pla-extrafill-nobble-blue -- If you are looking for other great holiday deals, why not check out Gear Best while the Black Friday specials are still running? https://goo.gl/V8jtFR ************************************** If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! DIY UV LED Resin Curing Bucket

12:105 years Agoi
Now that I have the Peopoly Moai up and running, I needed a way to cure the prints. So I built this very simple, down and dirty UV LED Curing “Bucket.” It’s not pretty, but it is very simple and easy to make- and most importantly, it is CHEAP!!l These are the UV 12V Waterproof LED’s that I used for this project. They are in the right UV spectrum to cure prints with most resin’s that can be used on the Moai and many other SLA printers. http://amzn.to/2gZ0WnE If you would like to purchase your own Moai, they are available at: Moai at MatterHackers (free shipping in the US): (affiliate link) https://goo.gl/mWTCiE Moai direct from Peopoly https://peopoly.net/collections/frontpage Links referenced in the video: Tri-Flow Lubricant Drip Bottle http://amzn.to/2yHXSpp Peopoly Forum https://forum.peopoly.net For printable tools and upgrades/assecories for the Peopoly Moai, see the Thingiverse group here: https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/peopoly-moai/things If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! Sub $200 kit? errr maybe not… TronXY X8 Community Builders Wrap up.

6:165 years Agoi
This is NOT a review, it's an ANTI-REVIEW. We had a great community effort on the builds of the TronXY X8 printer and I think it's time to close chapter one on this printer. Unfortunately the quality control just want there. I really think this is very representative of what you get in a really cheap kit. For more details on the how bad the QC is on this kit, please see the full build of the community stream. If you are really adventurous and want to see how bad this kit is for yourself, my affiliate links for the best pricing are below. Gear Best did provide this kit to me free of charge to build and review, however each of the builders in the Community build bought their own kits. ***Updated Affiliate link to TronXY X8 printer on Gear Best for this project: US Plug: https://goo.gl/ge1Lpd EU Plug” https://goo.gl/DjEnEG If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up! 8:335 years Agoi

The Spool Holder Project – Part1: Design & Test Print

7:345 years Agoi
When Jeffrey over at the Print 3D Channel told me he needed a spool holder for the Tevo Tarantula that he was building, I knew there was only one thing I could do: Design something that was practical and simple, that used little more than the printed pieces and would put his gMax to the test! In Part 1 we go through the concept and design of the spool holders as well as a test print. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion over on the Print 3D Channel! https://youtu.be/8uTOPeo37Hg The spool holder model can be downloaded at Repable’s if you would like to try your own! All that's needed is a couple of feet of 3/4 inch PVC pipe! https://repables.com/r/862/ Special thanks to Dustin (A.K.A the JAT.MN for helping with the test prints for sizing). https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6JyY2ns5FOFotH88RGqNEw If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up. Using Endodontic/Dental Files to clean your nozzle

2:185 years Agoi
My dentist turned my onto a great tool for clearing jams in the tip of your nozzle. Its called an Endodontic (or Dental) file and its works great! Worth noting that using any kind of mechanical device (dental file, drill bit, etc.) does risk the chance of scratching you nozzle, so it should only be used when non-invasive methods of clearing the jam (such as Atomic Pulls) don't work. Your best resource for these is you own family dentist, but you can also find them online at all of the usual haunts. For example, here is a set from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/15-40-Medical-Stainless-Reamers-endodontic/dp/B019SM91ZA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499820810&sr=8-1&keywords=dental+files If you are in the HB area, be sure to pay a visit to Adams Ave. Dental! BuildTak FlexPlate System Install

18:515 years Agoi
This time on Practical Printing we are going to unbox and install the BuildTak FlexPlate System on Sharon, my Monoprice Maker Select (Wandhao Di3). Apologies for the few camera and lighting glitches and the explosions in the background. Filmed this over the course of the 4th of July, and every time fireworks went off, the lights flickered... Though left out for the video by oversight, the FlexPlate System was provided to me by BuildTak at a discounted price for review on this channel. If you are interested in picking up the FlexPlate system if can be purchased from MatterHackers at: https://www.matterhackers.com/store/c/BuildTakFlexPlate or direct from BuildTak at: https://www.buildtak.com/product/buildtak-flexplate-system/ I am now an Amazon affiliate! Down and Dirty DIY Hanging Camera Mount

7:165 years Agoi
I needed a way to suspend a camera from the ceiling of my garage yesterday for a live stream, so I came of with this down and dirty Practical Print. This printed quickly on my SeeMeCNC H2 printer and allowed me to hang a camera from the existing exposed 2x4 rafters in my garage. This was a very quick project you can do at home using just a couple dollars worth of hardware available at most hardware stores. Worth noting, that this is NOT a HEAVY DUTY camera mount. While this is great for a light weight Go Pro or Web camera, I would not recommend using this to hang your $1000 camcorder or DSLR from… All Thingiverse model files shown in our videos will be saved to this collection: http://www.thingiverse.com/Crussty/collections/practical-printing-channel If you like the channel, please be sure to subscribe and leave a thumbs up. DIY Heater Block Silicone Socks – Part 2

DIY Heater Block Silicone Socks – Part 1

How-To: Making 3D Printed Stencils with Simply3D

7:336 years Agoi
This week on Practical printing we follow up on the Nested 3D images technique I covered last time, and show you how to use Simplify3D to make 3D printed Stencils that can be used for spray painting, tracing or anything that you can come up with. I’ll show you how to generate the stl files in Simplify3D from a flat image and walk you through the settings needed for a successful print. I’ll also touch on how to handle “islands,” i.e. the inside of letters like D. The #3DPinkMafia logo from Heather over at A Pyro Design will make a special appearance to show how multiple stencils can be layered to achieve this/ If you try this technique and come up with some amazing prints, please be sure to tag me on twitter so I can see what you came up with! How-To: Nested 3D Images/Logos With Simplify3D

9:326 years Agoi
Last week, I was working with Travis from A Pyro Design to come up a new logo for the channel. I wanted something not just for the screen, but also something that could be 3D printed. While doing so I discovered this neat process of using the built in Image to 3D tool in Simplify 3d convert the image with different depth profiles to allow nesting the images together. This should also be usable for dual-extrusion for multi-color prints. Sorry about the mess here in the office behind me. Spring cleaning in progress! Practical Printing – Yet ANOTHER Machine Vise

5:336 years Agoi
In this episode of Practical Printing we take a look at the “Yet ANOTHER Machine Vise” by TheGoofy. Be sure to give him so love on Thingiverse! This is a long, but fun print that is very handy for little projects around the house. This was printed on Ozzy, a heavily modified gCreate gMax 1.0 printer. One thing I stress in the video is that while I have a VERY large print area at my disposal and could have printed a few of these simultaneously, I choose to break up prints like this into more bite size chucks. This way a failure on one component doesn’t potentially wreck the entire print. It’s also crucial that your printed is printing dimensionally accurate to be able to get the pins to fit in.
